Shanah Tova – Happy New Year!
5781

Blow the Shofar in Zion, and sound an alarm on My holy mountain! Let all the inhabitants of the land tremble, for the day of the LORD is coming; Surely it is near… (Joel 2:1)

Shalom dear Friends of FZS!

Tonight (this Friday evening), Israelis traditionally welcome the New Year eating apples dipped in honey on Rosh Hashanah to symbolize a sweet start of the New Year. But instead, bitterness prevails as the country faces a second 3-week-nationwide-lockdown during the entire Fall Feasts of Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur and Sukkot.

Holocaust Survivor, Vladimir Kantorovich

“Despite being an adult, I have to ask her for help. I worked all my life, but I could not get a proper pension to live on without my daughter’s help.” Thousands of elderly and Holocaust survivors live in poverty in Israel and are in need of daily help with food, especially during the upcoming holiday period.

This is why FZS is here to reach out and help needy and distressed survivors like Vladimir. Even with the strict lockdown procedures in place, we as a registered humanitarian aid organization are able to make home deliveries of food and other essentials to needy shut-ins who are struggling.

The Feast of Trumpet (Yom T’ruah). In more modern times the feast has also been recognized as Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish new year. The significance of the Shofar blowing is seen as a sacred preparatory calling of the souls of believing Israel to wake up, repent and prepare for their pilgrim journey up to Jerusalem in order to appear before the Lord’s presence.

Wake up Israel… Yeshua The Messiah’s coming is near!

Furthermore, the blowing of the Shofar, begins a ten day period known as “Days of Awe” lasting until Yom Kippur – The Day of Atonement when God’s people weep and fast in repentance for 24 hours.

The Feast of Trumpets/Rosh Hashanah is also viewed as a day of judgment – where God’s people examine their lives for sin, and then have the following ten days to make peace with those whom they have hurt, or broken promises with, especially with the Lord. It is the time to cast away sin, as symbolized by the traditional act of Tashlich (‘to cast’) in which people visit a body of moving water and cast bread crumbs into the water, a tradition originating from the words of the prophet Micah…

“He will turn again, He will have mercy on us; He will subdue our iniquities; and will cast all our sins into the depths of the sea. (Micah 7:19)

Sometimes when it rains it pours…

It was just 2 weeks ago that we received the 40ft container of aid from Nachamu Ministries in Holland. We were so grateful to the Lord because our supplies were running critically low. And then this week we were offered a 20ft container of aid from GAiN International! In this second shipment, much of the clothing is brand new! Praise the Lord our warehouse is full to capacity!

Olim happy for new clothing!

Special Prayer Requests we receive from Friends…

From Bruce:

Please pray for my dear and closet friend named Donna S. The cancer started in her throat (found in August) and spread to her liver and 3 small spots on her brain. She was very weak and almost died. She had surgery (apparently for the liver) which apparently was not successful. Donna had radiation 2 times and the 2nd chemo on Monday, Sept. 14. The doctor says the spots on her brain are “dead” – gone! (Glory to God)! She will be having more chemo (apparently 5 more).

I spoke at length with the nephew who is a serious Christian. He says thank you for all the prayers. I asked him to keep me posted with updates.

Please keep praying for Donna!!!

Love in Yeshua’s (Jesus) name,

Bruce
